Death
(Jenny Filson 1980)
Well, if ever I was in darkness it was when I was captive in your shadows
Cold and scared and all alone, with icy fingers closing in.
But, love cut through like a knife and broke the spell that I was under
Lifted me out of the darkness where you held me.
And, I saw light for the first time.
Death! Where is your victory?
Well, you can't hold me down anymore.
Death! Where is your sting?
Don't you know that I have been set free?
Death! Where is your strength?
Don't you know that you can't hold me because I can see a new way.
And, you can't hold me!
Ha! You thought you had me. Now, look who's laughing at who!
I can't believe that I believed all the lies you fed me.
Don't think that you can pull me under into that old black silence.
I don't have to answer to you.
And, if you listen... there's Someone stealing away your quiet!
Death! Where is your victory?
You can't hold me down anymore.
Death! Where is your sting?
Don't you know that I have been set free?
Death! Where is your strength?
Don't you know that you can't have me because I can see a new way.
And, you can't hold me!
