Livin' In A Fallen World

Livin' In A Fallen World

(Rich Mullins, November 1982)

You say I'm crazy 'cause I don't think like you.
But, you never took the time to count the difference.
You stop so close it keeps you unable to move.
You're so securely locked behind your defenses.
You've got a list of names for folks who haven't bought
into your list of personal convictions.
That confidence you wear is just a meager camouflage.
And, what lies beneath it is just down right sickenin'.
Me, I've been hurt and I'm afraid to take a gamble
I'd like to reach you, but I'm afraid I might get trampled.
What if you laugh? What if you spit and curse?
It ain't easy livin' in a fallen world.
I say you're narrow, and that's 'cause you don't think like me.
You're so righteous. I just assume you're blinded.
I heard somebody say, "You gotta love your enemies"
I simply prefer to criticize them.
So, enamored in my bias I make
these thin excuses to be my standards.
I bow my head for show. I'm too proud to pray.
And, I'm afraid that lovin' you just might be the answer.
You, you've been hit by those insensitive solicitations.
You mistrust my motives, so my message is an aggravation.
You'd like to listen, but suspicion reoccurs.
It ain't easy livin' in a fallen world.
