Long Way Home

Long Way Home

(Rich Mullins, 1982)

There's a woman at the well. There's a man on His way.
She's makin' faces, but He cuts right through them.
You can easily tell from the things He will say
That she's more than she thought.. and, He's far more than human.
She tells her life story. And, He points out her traps.
He knows what's important and, where her heart's hurting at.
From the water He's pouring, she can easily see that....

It isn't such a long way home after all.
And, you're never more than a prayer away from Jesus.
It isn't such a long way home after all.
Your past can't hold you if you decide not to keep it.

There's a Man with the answers.. and, a man who wanted to know,
And, a sycamore tree for old Zacheaus to climb in.
One looked up in the branches and said, "It's time for you to grow.
Come down and see what your old life's kept in hidin'!
He thought he'd jumped into Heaven when his feet hit the ground.
After all those years pretending, it was good to come down.
He took God as his guest. And, at last then he found....

It isn't such a long way home after all.
And, you're never more than a prayer away from Jesus.
It isn't such a long way home after all.
Your past can't hold you if you decide not to keep it

So, if you're tired of trying to make it alone,
Ain't it nice to know? Tell me, ain't it nice to know?

It isn't such a long way home after all.
And, you're never more than a prayer away from Jesus.
It isn't such a long way home after all.
Your past can't hold you if you decide not to keep it.
No. Don't keep it.

It isn't such a long way home after all.
And, you're never more.. you're never more..
You're never more than a prayer away from Jesus.
It isn't such a long way home after all.
Your past can't hold you if you decide not to keep it.
